Blueberry crumble loaf

Recently Mr Birdie declared that somebody at his work had made a cake that was far better than anything I had made recently. You can probably guess that this did not go down well with me! The recipe in question is from The Hummingbird Bakery’s Cake Day book. Whilst looking at the recipe for this supposedly amazing cake, I spotted this recipe for a blueberry crumble loaf. I had bought some blueberries thinking I would make these blueberry and pretzel cookies but changed my mind after seeing this recipe. I had a slight issue in that I didn’t have a loaf tin which was the right size. I ignored this and used my 2lb load tin and did have some issues with it overflowing the top of the tin which then made it very difficult to get it out at the end. The recipe also only said to grease the tin and dust with flour. With hindsight, I would definitely line the tin with baking parchment.

Christmas Is Coming Part 1 – Cranberry & White Chocolate Cookies

Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat…so it must be time for some Christmas inspired recipes! This time last year I became a bit obsessed with cranberry based cookie recipes. As December is now here I felt it was time to revisit some of these recipes. These cookies are from ‘The Hummingbird Bakery’ Cake Days book. I’ve made these once before and liked the flavour combination. We enjoyed these today when we made a Starbucks pit-stop with friends on the way to a christening in Tunbridge Wells. I plan to post a few more cranberry based recipes over the next weeks so keep your eyes peeled!

I had intended to try out this recipe for macadamia and cranberry American cookies from the BBC Good Food website however when I saw the price of macadamia nuts in Tesco yesterday (£4.20 for a 250 gram bag!) I decided to think again. This is an easy recipe that you can make in one bowl – just be careful to not over bake them. I am still getting to know my oven and found they quickly went a little too brown and lost their chewiness. They would make a lovely festive gift for someone wrapped in cellophane or in a box and decorated with some festive ribbon. This recipe will make 10-12 cookies.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Teachers around Great Britain are rejoicing – why? It’s the holidays! That makes me happy as it means more time for baking! One of my bestest friends Rachael has just had a gorgeous baby boy so I thought the family may be in need of some sugary, chocolaty goodness to keep them all going so I decided chocolate chip cookies were most definitely needed!

This is a Hummingbird Bakery recipe from The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook. It’s the same book that the oat and raisin cookies that I’ve previously featured come from. This recipe makes 24 cookies.

Therapy Time – Oat and Raisin Cookies

DSC08278

It has been a stressful week in the Little Birdie kitchen and an even more stressful Saturday. Why does buying a house have to be such a horrendous experience? In an attempt to take my mind off things things I decided to make some cookies. Before Christmas I went on a cookie making splurge but haven’t really made any since. This is a Hummingbird Bakery recipe from The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook. I have made them twice before for work colleagues and they have always been well received. Plus they’ve got raisins and oats in them so surely they must be healthy? I’m currently enjoying one with a mug of warm milk before bed! This recipe makes 20ish (depending on how big or small you like your cookies – I managed to make 21 with this batch).
