Smartie cookies

So today marked a momentous occasion. My first official bake sale as a mum. Our Baby Sensory class was holding a bake sale for this year’s Children in Need and we were invited to bring a contribution to help raise some funds for a very worthwhile charity. I thought Smarties cookies would be fun and would also link to the idea of ‘spots’ for Children in Need. I found this Martha Collison recipe on the Waitrose website. These cookies would make a good child friendly bake. Not only are they easy to make but they’ll also be popular to eat too. They are soft and chewy and very similar in texture to the multi packs of cookies you can buy in supermarkets. You could of course swap the Smarties for any other sugar-shelled sweets you have such as M&Ms or Minstrels. The original recipes says it will make 30 however I made 18 medium-sized cookies. They must have been a hit as I only brought 4 home with me!

Banana and chocolate yogurt cake

SONY DSC

I made this over a month ago but have only just got round to posting it – my computer wouldn’t show me images when I put the SD card from the camera in so it made it tricky to finish it. Luckily my Dad came to visit a few weeks ago and sorted it out for me – thank goodness for dads! At the time I seemed to be eating a lot of cake (although that hasn’t really changed!). I think I was making up for lost time when I couldn’t eat that much when I was pregnant or it’s all the extra calories I was burning running around after two little people (and still am burning!) I had been fancying some banana bread so when we had some very brown bananas (Mr Birdie nearly through them in the bin!) I decided it was time for some more baking. I’ve made many different banana bread recipes before and banana and chocolate is always a winning combination. This recipe would be perfect for baking with children as you use a yogurt pot to measure most of the ingredients so there’s no need for scales. It’s quite good fun measuring everything out and would be ideal for little hands who aren’t used to working with scales. It’s a recipe from Delicious Magazine.

Fairy cakes

SONY DSC

I had the privilege last week of looking after my gorgeous Goddaughter for the day. I had promised her we would do some baking and after a morning at the aquarium it was back to our house to create something in the kitchen. I thought fairy cakes would be a good option as they are quick and easy to rustle up and can then be decorated in any way you fancy with lots of different colour, flavour and decoration options. We opted for some pink and chocolate icing and Smarties as decoration. We had good fun and she was very proud of her cakes!
